Press Conference

In the wake of the global financial tsunami, Hong Kong has already entered a period of recession. The community is longing for a direction that can help Hong Kong to weather the storm.

The recently announced measures by the Chief Executive in meeting economic challenges have merely confined to the provision of stop-gap relief measures for the SMEs, the creation of temporary jobs and further strengthening the cooperation and coordination with the Mainland. Hence, the Government is simply playing the same old tune, and fails to propose innovative measures.

We believe that the Budget to be delivered by the Financial Secretary on late February 2009 should not be restrained to short-term measures that simply aimed at implementing the commitment of the Chief Executive.  In light of the anticipated economic downturn, it would be important for the Financial Secretary to steer the direction of a sustainable economic future for Hong Kong that could further enhance Hong Kong’s competitiveness and the quality of living.

In view of this, The Professional Commons has compiled a list of policy proposals for the Financial Secretary’s consideration in his preparation of the 2009-10 Budget.

We would host a press conference to announce these proposals. The details are as follows:
