A delegation of seven PC members had visited several research and academic institutes in Guangzhou from 24th to 26 April 2009, including the Centre for Hong Kong, Macao and Pearl River Delta, Zhongshan University; Institute of Modernization Strategy and Centre for Environmental Economics & Policy Research, Guangdong Academy of Social Sciences; and School of Non-governmental Organizations, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. There were frank discussions and exchanges on a wide range of issues, such as the prospects for PRD-Hong Kong co-operation in light of the promulgation of the “Outline of the Plan for the Reform and Development of the Pearl River Delta (2008-2020)”, potential areas for the development of the low-carbon economy, the development of non-governmental organizations in the Mainland, etc. The delegation also visited Star House 60 (a cluster of creative industries), the construction site of Guangzhou Opera House, Guangzhou University City, Nansha Wetland Park, etc.
